Privacy Policy

In short

• No account, no ads, no tracking, no analytics.
• AI, dictation and transcription run on your device: your notes are never sent to our servers, and we can’t access them.
• Your notes sync only through your private iCloud, if you turned it on.
• Only RevenueCat, our subscription management provider, receives technical data about your purchases. It never receives any note.

Data controller

The NoteQuill app (iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch) and the notequill.app website are published by JESSAL, a French SAS with a share capital of €2, registered with the Paris Trade and Companies Register under number 939 027 959, VAT FR92939027959, whose registered office is at 60 rue François Ier, 75008 Paris, France, the data controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For any question about your data: support@notequill.app.

On-device processing

Titles, summaries, tasks, rewrites, translations, flashcards, quizzes, courses, answers to your questions and homework help are produced by the AI model built into your Apple device (Apple Intelligence). Speech recognition and reading text in images and PDFs also happen on the device.

The app uses no online AI service. If a language isn’t available on the device, the app tells you instead of sending your audio to a server. Your device may download speech or translation models from Apple: these downloads contain none of your data.

On Apple Watch, the “Dictate your note” field uses Apple’s system dictation, governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

Data stored on your devices and in your iCloud

Your content is saved on your device: note text, AI results (titles, summaries, tasks, flashcards, translations, courses, question history), transcripts, attachments (audio, video, PDF), photos, scans and handwritten pages.

If iCloud is turned on, it syncs to the private iCloud database of your Apple Account (CloudKit). This data is hosted by Apple, under Apple’s privacy policy, and we can’t access it. Without iCloud, it stays on the device.

The app also saves free-plan usage counters (number of summaries, questions, transcription trial) and your study days in your iCloud, so your limits and your streak are the same on all your devices. Finally, it creates a random installation identifier on the device, used only to make support easier if you write to us.

System features

When you use them, the app relies on iOS features that stay on your devices:

• Spotlight search: the title, summary and text of your notes are indexed on the device.
• Widgets, Siri, Shortcuts and Live Activities: they show your recent notes, your tasks or the recording in progress.
• Notifications: note reminders show the title and a preview. They are scheduled on the device, with no notification server.
• Apple Watch: the iPhone sends your 40 most recent notes (title, summary excerpt and tasks) to the paired watch. Voice memos recorded on the watch are transferred to the iPhone to be transcribed, then erased from the watch.
• Reminders: when you export tasks, they are created in Apple’s Reminders app.

Private notes (locked with Face ID or your passcode) are excluded from search, Siri, widgets and Apple Watch, and their notifications hide their content.

Permissions

The app asks for a permission only when you use the feature that needs it. You can withdraw it at any time in Settings › NoteQuill.

• Microphone and speech recognition: only during a dictation, memo or meeting you start.
• Camera: to photograph an exercise or scan a document.
• Photos: to import the photo or video you choose.
• Face ID: to open your private notes. The check is done by iOS: the app never receives your biometric data.
• Reminders: to add the tasks you export.
• Notifications: for note reminders, the study reminder and the weekly recap.

The app also checks whether a call is in progress, to stop a recording cleanly. It doesn’t access your contacts, your location or the content of your calls.

Purchases and RevenueCat

Payments go through Apple’s App Store: we never receive your payment details.

To check your access to NoteQuill Pro and restore your purchases, the app uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., United States), our subscription management processor. RevenueCat receives:

• an anonymous app-specific identifier and the device identifier Apple assigns to the developer (IDFV);
• the history of your NoteQuill purchases and subscriptions (App Store receipts);
• technical information: device model, iOS and app version, language, App Store country and IP address;
• when the subscription screen is shown and closed.

RevenueCat never receives your name, your email or any note. This data is used only to manage your purchases: it isn’t used for advertising or tracking. The transfer to the United States is covered by the safeguards required by the GDPR (European Commission standard contractual clauses). See also RevenueCat’s privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy.

Imported links

When you import a link (web page, audio or video file), the app downloads that content directly from the website, just as your browser would. That website therefore receives your IP address, under its own rules. The content is then transcribed or summarized on your device.

Email support

You can write to us by email or through the app’s “Contact support” form. We then receive your message and, if you provide it, your email address. To help us solve your problem, the app adds the installation identifier, app version, device model, iOS version and language: in an email, you can remove them before sending.

The form is provided by Tally (Tally BV, Belgium), which hosts the responses in the European Union on our behalf. Our mailbox is hosted by Hostinger.

These exchanges are used only to answer you. They are kept for at most 3 years after our last exchange, then deleted.

This website

The notequill.app website uses no analytics, no advertising and no embedded social networks. It only saves your language choice in your browser (local storage and an “nq_lang” cookie, valid for one year), so the right language shows right away. This cookie is strictly necessary for the feature you request and requires no consent.

The site is hosted on a Hostinger server. Like any website, the server receives your IP address to send you the pages: we keep no log of your visits.

Legal bases

• Performance of the contract: providing the app’s features, managing your purchases and your Pro access (RevenueCat).
• Legitimate interest: answering your support requests and keeping the website secure.
• Your choice: iOS permissions (microphone, photos, Reminders…) and iCloud sync, which you can turn off at any time.

Retention and deletion

Your notes are kept until you delete them. Deleting a note also deletes it from your iCloud, your other devices, Spotlight search and its reminders.

Deleting the app erases local data, but not the data in your iCloud. To erase it, open Settings › [your name] › iCloud, then storage management, and delete NoteQuill’s data.

Purchase data is kept by RevenueCat as long as needed to manage your subscriptions and meet our legal obligations. To ask for its deletion, write to us at support@notequill.app with the identifier shown in the app’s settings. Your purchases stay linked to your Apple Account: you can always restore them.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object to and port your data. Since your notes are under your sole control, you can edit, export (text or PDF) or delete them directly in the app.

To exercise your rights over other data, write to us at support@notequill.app: we answer within one month. If you believe your rights are not respected, you can lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL: cnil.fr).

Children

NoteQuill requires no account and collects no identity data, whatever the user’s age. Purchases by minors are subject to Apple’s parental controls and Family Sharing.

Changes

We may update this policy, for example when the app changes. The date of the last update is shown at the top of this page. If there is a significant change, we will let you know in the app.
